After some scrabbling around on Google this afternoon, I finally found what I had been searching for: a set of websites specifically to enhance oral skills. Number one on my list is The Art of Storytelling. Here, users may choose from a categorically arranged pictures and tell a story about the character(s) depicted. After recording their interpretation of the picture, they can share the audio with whomever they choose using the website’s email feature. The URL is listed below
http://www.artofstorytelling.org/
The second resource is Voxopop, which allows registered users to create text chat groups for whichever topic or language they wish. http://www.voxopop.com/
Both of these could be used for extensive speaking tasks to increase the amount of speaking practice students get outside of class.
To give credit to the original author, I should say I found both of these resources on Larry Ferlazzo’s blog: http://larryferlazzo.edublogs.org/2008/03/17/the-best-sites-to-practice-speaking-english/
